PLAYBOY SETS AGREEMENT WITH USA NETWORK FOR 26 HALF-HOUR SERIES 'EDEN'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Playboy Entertainment Group (PEG) and USA Network have reached an agreement for USA to begin airing 26 half-hour episodes of Playboy's continuing dramatic series "Eden," it was announced today by Tony Lynn, president of PEG and David Kenin, executive vice president of programming at USA.
"We're pleased to be associated with USA Network in this unique agreement which is among the first of its kind between a premium and pay cable television network," stated Tony Lynn, president of Playboy Entertainment Group. "I think it provides a good example of the way that alliances are developing in the changing world of television."
"USA Network has long been interested in trying out an adult nighttime drama," said David Kenin, executive vice president of programming. "To team up with Playboy, with their high level of production value, seemed the perfect opportunity."
Lynn added that "the relationship underscores our commitment to establish strategic partnerships for our originally-produced programming."
The series is filmed entirely on location in Manzanillo, Mexico, where the beautiful Las Hadas hotel is the setting for an exclusive tropical island resort called Eden. The story revolved around the resort's owner, a beautiful young widow named Eve as well as the people who surround her and the rich and famous who come to Eden, hoping to resolve their problems, renew or dissolve old relationships and find new romance.
"Eden" stars Barbara Alyn Woods, Jack Armstrong, Steve Chase, Darcy DeMoss, Jeff Griggs and Dean Scofield. Produced for Playboy by Pacific Rim Ltd., the series, created by Stephen Johnson, was developed by Stephen Black and Henry Stern who also serve as executive producers. Black and Stern have an accomplished list of writing and production credits that include such popular network series as "Falcon Crest," "Dynasty," "Matlock," "Knot's Landing" and "Flamingo Road."
USA will kick off the series this summer with a two-hour movie special consisting of the first four episodes. "Eden" will then be telecast Monday through Thursday in late night.
PEG premiered its "uncut" version of the series in November, 1992 on its national cable service, Playboy TV. Through various licensing agreements to date, "Eden" will also be broadcast in 14 other countries worldwide.
USA Network, America's Favorite Cable Network, is seen in over 60 million homes nationwide via 11,500 affiliates.
Playboy TV is a premium cable service available on a pay-per-view basis in more than 8 million households and as a monthly subscription service in 13 million households nationwide.
