 PLASTIPAK PACKAGING REGISTERED WITH ISO
 Plastic container manufacturer complies
 with international quality standards
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alsip plant of Plastipak Packaging, Inc., a Plymouth-based manufacturer of plastic containers, has been registered with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for complying with a rigorous set of criteria specifying a manufacturer's quality systems.
After more than a year of planning and intensive work, Plastipak's Alsip, Ill., plant has been registered to ISO-9002, a specific group of quality guidelines. The registration was issued on Sept. 29, 1992, by SGS Yarsley Quality Assured Firm Ltd., a certified third-party ISO registrar.
The ISO is an organization of standards agencies from 91 countries, founded in 1946 to promote the standardization of goods and services to facilitate international trade. The U.S. member organization is The American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
A top priority of ISO and ANSI is to promote high-quality products and services through the standardization of management and quality systems. This is achieved by offering corporations a detailed program of steps that can be taken to comply with quality standards -- the ISO-9000 Series. When a company demonstrates that they have met the ISO criteria, they become registered to a specific set of ISO guidelines: ISO-9000 through ISO-9003.
Complying with the ISO-9000 Series will help Plastipak achieve a higher level of excellence in establishing, documenting and maintaining an effective quality system. The guidelines affect every aspect of the company's management systems, from initial customer inquiries and planning through production, delivery and servicing. It means increased value, higher customer satisfaction and a greater emphasis on continuous improvement.
"This is another step in our long-term plan of implementing a total quality management system in our entire organization. We are very proud that we are the first rigid blow molding company in the United States to receive this registration," commented William C. Young, president of Plastipak Packaging, Inc. "The key to our continued growth and success in the marketplace is a total commitment to continuous improvement, by everyone, at all levels. We're well on our way."
