PLANS REVIVED FOR PRIVATIZATION OF AIRPORT.
The Government has reactivated a plan for the privatization of the
Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, says Transport Minister
Peter Phillips, reports The Jamaica Observer (June 29, 1998). Minister
Phillips said the Cabinet had approved the privatization plan but that
the successful bidder would have to agree to fund a new US$100 million
terminal building at the facility. The prequalification deadline was
July 15, 1998. The Montego Bay airport is the main gateway for the more
than one million tourists to Jamaica annually. Air Jamaica also uses it
as a Caribbean regional hub. Details: Stephen Wedderburn, Director -
