PLANNED NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SCHOOL RESULTS IN PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR ARTHUR ANDERSEN

Plans underway to begin the 'School of the Future' in Alameda

SAN FRANCISCO, March 8 -- A planned "School of the Future," to be based in Alameda, Calif., has landed Arthur Andersen the Conference Board's prestigious "Best In Class" award. The award was presented at the Conference Board's 1996 Business and Education Conference in New York City earlier this week. The award honors innovative corporate programs that improve education, and was selected from submissions from 67 companies.

"Research by a national commission of citizens and educators has emphasized the need for significant improvements in the education system," said Richard L. Measelle, worldwide managing partner of Arthur Andersen. "With School of the Future, Arthur Andersen hopes to achieve a breakthrough in the quality and productivity of public education."

Current curricula fail to teach students the skills that are critical for the 21st century workplace. "Arthur Andersen has designed new organizing principles for schools, and developed training programs based on total quality principles, cooperative learning, and authentic assessment, incorporating Arthur Andersen's Global Best Practices research in the program strategy," said Measelle. "The learning environment is built around a theme of science and technology and supports interdisciplinary learning."

Plans are underway to begin the School of the Future in Alameda, Calif.
