PITTSBURGH FOOD & BEVERAGE ADDS SOFT DRINK LINE TO PRODUCT MIX

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh Food & Beverage Company, Inc. (PF&B) -- parent company of Pittsburgh Brewing Company, D.L. Clark Candy Company and City Pride Bakery -- has become the licensed bottler for Crush, Barrel Head Root Beer and Sun Drop soft drinks in western Pennsylvania and northeastern West Virginia, it was announced today.
Manufacturing, bottling and distribution of the soft drink products will be managed by City Pride Bakery.
"This is a natural product extension for us in the food and beverage categories," said PF&B President Jack Isherwood. "We already have the retail and wholesale distribution systems in place with the bakery and Pittsburgh Brewing."
Under the licensing agreement with Cadbury Beverages, Inc., of Stamford, Conn., PF&B will bottle and distribute Crush in orange, grape and strawberry flavors, Barrel Head Root Beer and Sun Drop, a citrus flavored beverage.
"Crush and Barrel Head are well-known names in the soft drink industry," said City Pride Bakery President Bob Bennardo. "In fact, in the early '80s Barrel Head was the top-selling root beer in the Pittsburgh metro market. Basically we're reintroducing Barrel Head and we think we can make all three brands very competitive in a very short time."
Crush, Barrel Head and Sun Drop will be packaged in 12-ounce cans, 20-ounce cans and two-liter bottles. They will be available in traditional retail outlets.
Pittsburgh Food & Beverage Company, Inc. is the privately held parent company of Pittsburgh Brewing Company, D.L. Clark Candy Company, Wayne Candies and City Pride Bakery. Among the products manufactured by PF&B companies are Iron City and I.C. Light beers, Clark and Bun candy bars, City Pride bread and buns and Crush, Barrel Head Root Beer and Sun Drop soft drinks.
