PIONEER STUDY ON INDOOR AIR QUALITY RESULTS ANNOUNCED AT NEWS CONFERENCE

 94 Percent Report Improved Air Quality;
 55 Percent Decrease In Absenteeism
 WAYNE, Pa., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- In a national teleconference today, CenterCore, Inc., a manufacturer of interior environments, release the preliminary results of a pioneer case study on indoor air quality and worker productivity.
 The results were positive: symptoms of illness were reduced, employees had an enhanced positive perception of their office as a "nicer, healthier place to work," and employers reported a marked reduction in sickness absence. In fact, based on sickness records provided by the employer, there was a 55 percent decrease in certified sickness absence during the six months following the installation, compared to the corresponding period the previous year. Other significant research findings include:
 -- 94 percent of employees report improved indoor air quality
 -- 40 percent self-reported increase in productivity of workers
 -- Reduced variations in temperature and increased thermal comfort
 -- Reduced electrostatic shock
 -- Improved lighting conditions/reduced glare
 -- Reduced affirmative responses to descriptions of poor indoor air quality
 -- Increased perception of office cleanliness
 -- Improved opinion of the quality and comfort of their workstation
 Dr. Alan Hedge, a Cornell University scientist and expert on indoor air quality, and Dr. John McCarthy, president of Environmental Health and Engineering, Inc. and Harvard School of Public Health lecturer, were commissioned by CenterCore to conduct the research in an effort to scientifically measure the effectiveness of indoor air quality on the health, comfort and productivity of office workers.
 "The use of breathing zone filtration (BZF) to improve indoor air quality brings subsequent improvement in perceived health, productivity and morale," said Hedge. "With this study we have made significant progress in evaluating the issue of clean indoor air."
 "When you consider that the Consumer Federation of America claims that U.S. business is spending in excess of $100 billion on indoor air issues annually," said George Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of CenterCore, Inc., "a study such as this may be a company's call to action."
 The research included equipping the office site with furniture systems integrating a breathing zone filtration (BZF) unit. During the teleconference, it was announced that workers in the test group who received the new furniture/BZF unit installation reported reduced lost productivity due to better indoor air quality and reduced reports of work-related symptoms such as strained eyes, dry skin, stuffy nose, lethargy, headache or dizziness. As scientist Dr. John McCarthy said, "By going in and treating the air with filtration units, there was a noticeable effect on air mixing within the spaces enclosed by partitions and a removal of a broad spectrum of particles."
 The site of the study is two 13,000 square-foot floors of the offices of Statistics Canada, located in a 29-story Canadian government building in Ottawa. Floor 5 functions as the test floor, where new office furniture systems has been installed which integrated BZF systems. Floor 17 serves as the control floor, with no new furniture systems. In addition, one quadrant of floor 5 serves as a placebo condition, with the filters being removed from the BZF systems.
