PIONEER RECEIVES 1992 GRAMMY(R) AWARD NOMINATION FOR
'MADONNA: BLOND AMBITION WORLD TOUR LIVE' LASERDISC
LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In the coveted race for the Grammy Award(R), Pioneer Artists, the music video arm of laserdisc distribution leader Pioneer LDCA Inc., has already scored a significant win for the laserdisc format by securing a 1992 nomination for its "Madonna: Blond Ambition World Tour Live" release. Industry recognition for this exciting laser exclusive program, which was nominated in the long form music video category, underscores the consumer demand for laserdisc music entertainment.
The "Madonna: Blond Ambition World Tour Live" laserdisc is the most successful Pioneer Artists title to date. First issued in December 1990, this Madonna release is made available to home viewers exclusively on laserdisc. The program features highlights from Madonna's dynamic 1990 concert tour and captures the essence of her live performance with an unprecedented realism and clarity offered only by the laser format.
"We are honored that Madonna's 'Blond Ambition' has received this special recognition from the recording industry, along with the work of many talented musicians whose material is also available to consumers on laserdisc," said David Wallace, marketing manager for Pioneer LDCA Inc. "The continued mainstream popularity of the format is a powerful affirmation of the superiority of digital entertainment."
Nominated also for 1992 Grammy Awards(R) are a number of recording artists whose musical performances are made available on laserdisc by Pioneer Artists. These works include Jesus Jones ("Right Here Right Now" (Best Pop Performance) and "Doubt" (Best Alternative Music Album), both available on "Big in Alaska;" Chick Corea Akoustic Band "Alive" (Best Jazz Instrumental Performance), available on "Akoustic Alive;" Sinead O'Connor "Year Of The Horse" (Best Long Form Video); Whitney Houston "All The Man That I Need" (Best Pop Vocal Performance), a live performance available on "Welcome Home Heroes;" Wilson Phillips "You're In Love" (Best Pop Performance by a Group), available on "Wilson Phillips;" and Gypsy Kings "Este Mundo" (Best World Music Album), which features a number of songs recorded live on the exclusive laserdisc release "U.S. Tour '90."
Composer Michael Kamen was a multiple nominee primarily in the songwriting and arranging categories for his music from the "Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves" motion picture soundtrack. He also has been nominated as co-composer and conductor for "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" from the "Robin Hood" soundtrack.
Although it does not include the "Robin Hood" theme song, Pioneer Artists issues a laserdisc entitled "Michael Kamen: Concerto For Saxophone," which profiles this extraordinary composer's talent and includes excerpts from his most recent solo album featuring David Sanborn.
Other nominees whose past work is featured on Pioneer Artists laserdisc include Diane Schurr, Barbra Streisand, Hammer, The Judds, Dave Grusin, Clint Black and John (Cougar) Mellencamp.
The nominees were selected from nearly 8,600 entries. The winners will be unveiled on Feb. 25 during the 34th Annual Grammy(R) Awards Ceremony.
