PIONEER PRESS TO SPONSOR GOLF SCHOOLS AT GRAND VIEW
The St. Paul Pioneer Press announced today it is initiating a series

of golf schools at the Grand View Lodge Resorts near Brainerd, Minn.
Paul Farrell, senior vice president and marketing director, said the Pioneer Press has been looking for additional ways to serve its readers and believes there will be strong demand for the four- and six-day schools at Grand View Lodge July 12 - 14 and July 19 - 25. If these initial schools are successful, there will be more sessions next summer, he said.
"Minnesota has more golfers per capita than any other state and is a leader in hosting national professional and amateur tournaments, but we have almost nothing in the way of golf schools," Farrell said.
Farrell said Grand View and its heralded Pines Golf Course on Gull Lake offer among the finest facilities anywhere in the country to conduct golf schools. They have a separate teaching range with practice bunkers and putting green, 18-hole championship and 9-hole par 35 courses, as well as tennis, boating, fishing and swimming activities for the entire family. He indicated that top-name professionals such as Bill Rislove, Dave Tentis and others will be among the schools' golf instructors and will offer playing lessons each afternoon with participants. The Pines recently was ranked by Golf Digest magazine as one of America's outstanding new courses.
The Pioneer Press Golf Schools are a joint effort with Layton Marketing Group Inc. of White Bear Lake, Minn. Les Layton, president of the suburban firm, is a former participant in the state top tournaments and a current member of the Minnesota Golf Association's Executive Committee.
Space is limited to the first 64 participants who register for the four- and six-day sessions by calling 1-800-432-3788. Costs are $825 and $1,250, respectively, for the four- and six-day Pioneer Press Golf Schools, including all meals, double-occupancy lodging, video tapes, lessons and daily green fees. Children who accompany their parents will receive free daily golf lessons.
