PINE KNOB ADDS MORE CUSH IN THE PAVILION AS PADDED SEATS HIGHLIGHT $2 MILLION IN IMPROVEMENTS

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Who said seeing a concert at an outdoor theater is "roughing" it? The Pine Knob Music Theatre has padded 4,265 more seats in its pavilion area.
The additional 26 padded rows, in conjunction with the 34 rows that were padded last year, completes the pavilion area, making Pine Knob the first and only major amphitheater in the country to feature padded seating throughout its covered areas.
"Having padded seats in an amphitheater such as Pine Knob is revolutionary ... and we're excited about the opportunity to provide this increased level of comfort to all of our pavilion guests," said Tom Wilson, president of Pine Knob, The Palace and the Detroit Pistons. "Since we took over ownership of Pine Knob in 1991, our No. 1 priority has been to upgrade the facilities so we can offer our guests a matchless outdoor entertainment atmosphere and unprecedented service."
In addition, this spring's $2 million improvement project at Pine Knob includes:
-- Three new stairways in lawn seating areas
-- A quarter of a million dollars in additional landscaping
 -- Installation of a second, custom-designed waterfall
-- Renovation of lower stage left and stage right restroom facilities
-- Addition of permanent benches and gazebos in Parents' Park picnic area
-- Placement of courtesy lights on steps in pavilion
-- Restructuring of East Plaza open-air concession locations into specialty stands
-- Installation of additional acoustical treatment to the pavilion ceiling and placing camera platforms on pillars in the pavilion -- improving the video screens' camera angles -- are technical improvements designed to enhance Pine Knob's sound and visual quality
-- Additional improvements and upgrades to be announced.
Pine Knob set a precedent in 1992 by installing 2,999 padded seats, which feature fully cushioned bottoms and backs, to the first 34 rows of the pavilion. This year's renovation will increase reserved pavilion seating by 97 to 7,350, raising the venue's overall capacity to 15,350 including 86 barrier-free locations and 8,000 lawn seats.
During its first two years under ownership of The Palace, Pine Knob received a $10 million facelift, which doubled restroom facilities; tripled concession service points; added new vehicle and patron entrances; improved parking; installed giant video screens; expanded landscaping; widened and re-cemented walkways; re-positioned sound/light mixing area; widened the stage; installed a cabana bar; and constructed a hill-side waterfall.
Featuring a wide variety of first-class entertainment including comedy, pop, rock, variety, country, jazz and family shows, more than 70 shows are expected for the upcoming season.
One of the busiest and most successful amphitheaters in the country, Pine Knob hosted a total of 163 events and attracted 1.2 million guests in 1991 and 1992. Owned and operated by Arena Associates, Inc., owner of The Palace, the 20-year-old Pine Knob received its first-ever nominations as "Amphitheater of the Year" from Pollstar and Performance magazines the past two years.
