RAILTRACK blamed passenger service chaos yesterday morning on the wrong type of pigeon on the line.

One of the birds flew into a 25,000 volt power cable and caused a short-circuit that forced the complete suspension of electric train services between Edinburgh and the south.

Passengers tired of excuses for delays like the wrong type of snow or leaves on the line were stunned to be told to blame a pigeon hitting a cable at Drem Station, East Lothian.
