PIDA APPROVES $1.65 MILLION LOAN FOR FAYETTE COUNTY MANUFACTURER

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Gov. Robert P. Casey today announced the approval of a $1.65 million Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan that will enable a medical and industrial product company to establish a new manufacturing operation in southwestern Fayette County, creating 110 jobs over the next three years.
The PIDA loan, approved this morning during the board's monthly meeting, is being awarded to Berkley Medical Resources Inc., which will establish a 145,000-square-foot manufacturing operation in the Fairchance Business Park in Smithfield. It is the park's first tenant.
"Every day, PIDA loans help Pennsylvania companies expand, modernize and create new jobs," Gov. Casey said "For the working men and women of Fayette County, Pennsylvania's investment will result in one of the county's largest job creation projects in recent years."
The company, which is affiliated with Michael Berkowitz Co. Inc., manufactures non-woven wiping cloth for industrial and medical uses. Total cost for the new facility, which is located six miles southwest of Uniontown, is $3.5 million.
The Michael Berkowitz Co. will continue to operate two other manufacturing facilities in Fayette County.
PIDA loans, awarded at low interest rates, may be used by manufacturers and industrial firms to purchase land and buildings for construction or renovation. Applications are made by local industrial development groups on behalf of industrial borrowers.
