PICTURETEL NAMES DONALD WOLFF WESTERN REGION DIRECTOR

 SAN FRANCISCO, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- PictureTel Corporation (NASDAQ: PCTL) today announced that Donald J. Wolff has been named director-western region. Based in San Francisco, Wolff is responsible for directing all PictureTel sales activities into the 13 state western region, including Alaska and Hawaii. The appointment is effective immediately.
 Prior to joining PictureTel, Wolff served as a regional manager for Compression Labs Inc. In that position, he was responsible for directing the sales, engineering and administrative functions of the 14- state midwest region.
 Wolff also held sales and marketing positions of increasing importance with Octel Communications Corporation and IBM/ROLM Corporation, where he was responsible for various regional and branch operations since 1981.
 "Don brings a wide range of knowledge and experience in the videoconferencing and communications industries to PictureTel that will be very valuable to this critical region of PictureTel's business," said Dennis R. O'Connell, national sales manager, U.S. Sales and Service Division for PictureTel.
