PICTURETEL LEARNING SOLUTION SET HELPS REDEFINE THE WAY THE WORLD LEARNS
DANVERS, Mass. Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- PictureTel Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: PCTL) today introduced PictureTel Learning(tm), a comprehensive videoconferencing solution set focused on delivering high quality, on-going education to students in corporate settings as well as those in the classroom. PictureTel Learning is a unique combination of products and partnerships that bring new, interactive methods of delivering education into an expanding "virtual" classroom that today includes the corporate and business community as well as
traditional schools. "PictureTel Learning provides the world with a major breakthrough in education by combining cost effective, easy-to-use, interactive videoconferencing with leading companies and university programs," said Norman E. Gaut, president and CEO-PictureTel. "Our focus on distance learning applications is a natural fit with our high quality, cost effective and easy-to-use technologies. By developing relationships with companies like Wilson Learning and leading institutions like Columbia, Stanford and Boston University, we have effectively matched our technology and expertise to the tremendous potential distance learning offers the world's businesses."
Through PictureTel Learning classrooms, students and teachers of all ages and professions see and talk to each other as if they are in the same classroom.
"Today, businesses and universities are finding that education no longer is a process that has a beginning and an end. Effective education is an on-going process that must continue long after people leave what we now refer to as school," said Peter Bulkeley, a professor at Boston University. "This shift in the way people learn is having a profound impact on the way schools and universities deliver their products. PictureTel Learning is on the cutting edge of that revolution." The Learning Option Package and Classroom System
To help facilitate education delivery, PictureTel has developed the Learning Option Package and The Classroom System. Both of these education options turbocharge the System 4000(tm) platform to effectively turn any room into a classroom.
The Learning Option Package includes presentation tools and microphones that can be used with any PictureTel System 4000 Model 200 through Model 800. Optional performance features are available for added flexibility.
The Classroom System features a complete two-way learning system including PictureTel's System 4000 with a large 46-inch monitor, instructor tools and popular performance features. Optional features include dual, large screen monitors, ceiling microphones, a VCR, and slide and scan converters.
Also available is the Presenter's User Interface (PUI), a flexible and convenient software feature available only with PictureTel Learning application packages. The PUI makes giving presentations easy and enables the camera
present buttons to execute a pre-defined set of commands. The Learning Option Package lists for $10,000 and is available today worldwide through any PictureTel sales representative or dealer. The complete Classroom System lists for $67,000 and is available in the U.S. beginning immediately, with
international availability starting in mid-1993. PictureTel Corporation (NASDAQ: PCTL), headquartered in

Danvers, Mass., develops, manufactures and markets software-upgradeable visual telecommunications products for worldwide use with public and private digital networks. PictureTel videoconferencing systems enable dial-up, full-motion video calls with the convenience and economy of ordinary telephone service.
