PICTURETEL INTRODUCES ADDITIONS TO IMX FAMILY
DANVERS, Mass., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- PictureTel Corporation

(NASDAQ: PCTL) today announced the addition of the IMX-16 Bandwidth Manager to its IMX family of inverse multiplexer products, which includes the IMX-1 and IMX-1B. The PictureTel IMX family offers videoconferencing customers complete, flexible bandwidth-on-demand solutions from 112Kbps to 384Kbps. Additionally, the IMX-16 provides users with the unparalleled convenience and network flexibility when placing calls through PictureTel's M-8000(tm) Multipoint Bridge while at the same time reducing the per-port cost of PictureTel multipoint solutions for switched network environments.
In addition to providing videoconferencing users with the industry's easiest network access and control, customers also receive PictureTel's worldwide on-site service and support for the full IMX family. Each IMX product includes an internal modem for remote dial-in diagnostics and software upgrades.
The IMX-16 Bandwidth Manager is designed for use in environments with more than one videoconferencing system as well as with the M-8000 Multipoint Bridge. The IMX-16 also can support up to four T1 or PRI trunks and up to 16 terminal port cards. The IMX-16 fits easily into the M-8000 rack and can support up to 16 ports in the M-8000.
The IMX-16, like the IMX-1 and IMX-1B, offers seamless integration with the PictureTel System 4000(tm), allowing users to dial all video calls through the System 4000 keypad. All of the IMX products are BONDING compatible and will interoperate with any inverse multiplexer with like compatibility.
PictureTel Corporation, headquartered in Danvers, Mass., develops, manufactures and markets software-upgradeable visual telecommunications products for worldwide use with public and private digital networks. PictureTel videoconferencing systems enable dial-up, full-motion video calls with the convenience and economy of ordinary telephone service.
