PICK YOUR FAVORITE SPORT RANGE OF CHOICES FOR WATCHING, PLAYING.

Byline: - Daily News

Whether your desire is to watch sports or to participate in them, you have plenty of opportunities to do both in the greater Los Angeles area.

In 2005, Southern California sports fans saw the University of Southern California position itself for a third national championship in football, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim reach the American League Championship Series and Landon Donovan and the Galaxy dominate professional soccer, winning the Major League Soccer Cup and US Open championship.

Golf fans had the opportunity to watch Adam Scott win the Nissan Open at Pacific Palisades' Riviera Country Club in February.

That's hardly the limit to professional sports in the area, as the California Speedway in Fontana boasts two NASCAR Nextel Cup races and an IRL race. There's also an Arena Football League team, two Major League Soccer teams, a minor league baseball team, two pro tennis tournaments and numerous college athletic events.

For Daily News area sports enthusiasts more interested in participation, opportunities abound in community youth and adult recreation - with many municipal leagues available throughout the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas.
