PICK OF THE DAY; Premier League Darts Sky Sports 1, 7.30pm.

IMAGINE if you will, that you are Tuscany's top DJ, Alex Neri, writes Steve Davies.

Five years ago, while fiddling around with a 12-inch or two in pursuit of the summer smash of 2001, you hit upon the perfect sound.

It's called Chase The Sun and with the help of your band, Planet Funk, you release it just in time for the gorgeous hordes descending on Ibiza to have it perforating their eardrums for the entire holiday season. Five years on, though, and its position in the musical pantheon isn't quite where Neri had in mind.

Once an anthem for the bronzed and the beautiful, now it's the clarion call of the bleached and the pie-eyed courtesy of Sky, who have nicked the music to accompany the players and fans to the ad breaks during Premier League darts.

In the discos of the Med they would dance to Chase The Sun with hands raised, joy in their hearts and inane smiles on their faces' now they do it with placards raised proclaiming 'Come On Wayne', 'I've Got The Power' and 'My Scrotum Weighs A Ton!' And so tonight, an idea that was nurtured in Florence, maybe composed under the arches of the Ponte Vecchio or within earshot of the bells of the Campanile di Giotti, will echo around the Exhibition and Conference Centre, Aberdeen, home of 40ft snowdrifts and North Sea oilmen out on the piss.

Neri, almost unique in the world of the DJ for not making himself seem even more ridiculous by gratuitously changing his name to Crazy Jazzy Zee or Prince Knobhead, must be wondering if it's worth it.
