PIAZZA ITALIA BRINGING THE BEST OF ITALY TO THE HEART OF NEW YORK CITY
NEW YORK, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- For four weeks this fall, Americans will have only to travel to New York City to personally experience the best of Italy and the brilliant artistry recognized the world over as the imprint of Italian style.
In celebration of the 500 years of cultural, social and economic exchange between Italy and America, the Istituto Italiano per il Commercio Estero, known in the United States as the Italian Trade Commission, is transforming the Seventh Regiment Armory on Manhattan's Park Avenue into an authentic Italian piazza, showcasing Italian excellence in fashion and home design, crafts, jewelry-making, arts, technology and culture.
Open to the public from Sept. 15 through Oct. 9, "Piazza Italia" will be the stage for three spectacular exhibitions: "The Italian Art of Living," a stunning collection of 1,000 home furnishings and crafts displayed in a series of "rooms;" the American debut of "Valentino: Thirty Years of Magic," featuring designs and accessories created between 1960 and 1990; and "The Renaissance of Fantasy: Piero della Francesca and the Fabrics of His Times." The Piazza will also present fashion shows by Versace and by the Girombelli Group (Genny, Bybios, Complice), "Bulgari: Il Tempo," a display of watches and jewels, and a viewing and auction of 32 jewels created by 32 international celebrities, "A Jewel for Life," with profits being shared by three American charities.
Piazza Italia is the centerpiece of a nationwide campaign called "1992: Discovery of Italy" which features a panorama of events aimed at underscoring the "Quality of Life" that pervades every aspect of Italian life.
 "Piazza Italia" is open to the public Sunday - Thursday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. (except Sept. 21 and 22); Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
