PHYSICIAN SURRENDERS MEDICAL LICENSE.

Byline: Daily News

LANCASTER - A former High Desert Hospital physician surrendered his medical license after being accused by the state medical board of unprofessional conduct, the board said.

The Medical Board of California accused Lancaster physician Nagaraja Bhaskara of being grossly incompetent in treating a woman he diagnosed in 1997 as having lupus and degenerative joint disease.

After other doctors at Olive View Medical Center and at a clinic saw her, she was sent to neurologists at Olive View Medical Center, where an MRI showed she had spinal cord damage, the board said.

Bhaskara did not make a thorough examination of the woman, review her medical records or take her medical history, the board's accusation said.

Bhaskara also failed to refer her to a rheumatologist for confirmation of the lupus diagnosis, and failed to counsel her about her prognosis or establish a treatment plan.

Bhaskara had lost his staff privileges at High Desert in April.
