PHYSICIAN COMPUTER NETWORK SIGNS DATA-LINK AGREEMENT
 WITH NATIONAL HEALTH LABORATORIES
LAURENCE HARBOR, N.J., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Physician Computer Network, Inc. (PCN) (NASDAQ: PCNI) announced today that it has signed its second five-year agreement with a nationally known clinical laboratory which will enable PCN Physician Members to electronically requisition lab tests, receive test results and billing for laboratory services -- all on line -- through PCN's Communications Data-Link software.
While terms were not disclosed, PCN estimates that the access fees with the new laboratory, National Health Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: NHL) of La Jolla, Calif., and other clinical laboratories will result in laboratory Data-Link revenues from the majority of its office-based Physician Member sites.
The interactive Communications Data-Link service between Physician Members and the Lab uses PCN laboratory services software, a new product which will be integrated with PCN's medical practice management system located at PCN Physician Member offices. The agreement calls for PCN to receive an access fee on a per-site basis. In addition, the Lab has the option to purchase PCN pay-per-view advertisement space in the PCN interactive advertising module.
"This agreement is another step in reducing the cost of delivering healthcare information to our Physician Members. Through the use of our innovative electronic information service, our Physician Members can send and receive laboratory data automatically...that's what PCN is all about," said Jerry Brager, PCN's chief executive officer. "At the same time, this new software application will be an important source of revenue for the company," he added.
Brager said that PCN is the first company to create a national, interactive, two-way and verifiable computer link between office-based physicians and the healthcare/pharmaceutical industries. PCN provides both physicians and healthcare organizations a cost-effective means of information exchange which increases practice administration and productivity. The PCN Network also enables healthcare organizations to electronically transmit on a monthly basis, full-color advertisements of their products and services to PCN Physician Members. By the end of March 1992, PCN had installed its system for more than 2,000 Physician Members at some 1,400 practices nationwide.
