PHYLON ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR V.32TERBO: SOFTWARE UPGRADE AVAILABLE

FREMONT, Calif., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Phylon announced today its support for the V.32terbo de facto standard proposed by 18 modem and chip set manufacturers worldwide. V.32terbo will provide data rates of up to 19,200 bits per second, filling the gap until the V.Fast standard is developed and ratified by the CCITT. Because of Phylon's software- defined, open architecture approach, customers will be able to upgrade Phylon's V.32bis chipsets, the PHY1001 and PHY1002, via software, without any hardware changes. Phylon's V.32terbo software upgrade will be available in the next six weeks.
According to Phylon's vice president of marketing, Sid Bagwe, "Our customers will be able to easily add the V.32terbo capability to their phylon-based communications products, with a simple software upgrade. This will allow our customers to build into their communications products, whether PC, workstation, portable or standalone fax modems, the fastest modem data rates currently possible, and still maintain compatibility with existing modem and fax standards. Only Phylon, because of its unique software-defined architecture, can provide this enhanced capability so quickly and without hardware changes."
Privately held, Phylon is the leading-edge supplier of high speed, open architecture communications chipsets for standalone and embedded PC, laptop, workstation and fax/modem applications.
