PHP HEALTHCARE RETAINS MARKETING FIRM FOR PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- PHP Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: PPH) will begin aggressively marketing its health care products and services to the private sector health care industry through an exclusive arrangement with the marketing firm of J.P. Cole & Associates, Inc., also of Alexandria, PHP Chairman and President Charles H. Robbins announced today.
J.P. Cole & Associates is headed by John Cole, formerly senior vice president of Aetna with responsibility for national sales and health care delivery. Cole, a 30-year veteran of the employee benefits field, also has held executive position with Prudential, AMI, Blue Cross of California and Lincoln National.
PHP Healthcare historically is a major provider of managed health care services to federal, state and local governments. In 1992, however, the company expanded its services with the development of a managed health care system based within primary health care centers and began marketing to corporations and business coalitions. In June, PHP opened two primary health care centers for GTE Corporation in the Tampa Bay, Fla., area and one center for Bethlehem Steel in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. The company also contracted with Chrysler Corporation to provide occupational health services in two plants.
"Our goal in this agreement with J.P. Cole & Associates is to build on the successes PHP already has enjoyed in the private sector," commented Robbins. "In John Cole we have found a widely known and well- respected professional who thoroughly understands the corporate market for medical benefits products. With his help, I am confident that we can continue PHP's transition into a full-service, primary care-based, managed health care company."
