PHONE BALLOTING FOR THE 1993 MCDONALD'S ALL-STAR RACE TEAM
 KICKS OFF THIS WEEK
OAK BROOK, Ill., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The green flag is up and the race is on as fan balloting begins this week to determine the 1993 McDonald's All-Star Race Team. By voting for the three-member team via a special telephone hotline, fans can enter a sweepstakes to win a trip to the 1993 Daytona 500, a free supply of gasoline for a year and other exciting prizes. A portion of the proceeds from the hotline will benefit Ronald McDonald's Children's Charities.
Until Nov. 3, motorsports fans are invited to call the McDonald's All-Star Race Team Hotline -- 1-900-884-1993 -- and cast a vote for their favorite NASCAR drivers. The three drivers who receive the most votes will be designated 1993 McDonald's All-Star Race Team members. The 1992 Team includes three-time Team member Dale Earnhardt, two-time member Bill Elliott, and Davey Allison.
Each call to the hotline (95 cents per minute), which can only be accessed using a touch-tone phone, enters fans into the McDonald's All- Star Race Team Sweepstakes, featuring a Grand Prize of a trip for two to the 1993 Daytona 500 and a First Prize of a one-year supply of Texaco System-3 Gasoline. Daily instant-win prizes include full, uncut sheets of 1992 Limited Edition McDonald's/MAXX Trading Cards, a series of 36 cards featuring individual NASCAR drivers and the McDonald's All-Star Race Team. Winners of the Grand and First prizes will be announced in December.
"We're particularly proud of the balloting program for the All-Star Race Team because it not only gives fans the unique opportunity to vote for their favorite drivers on the NASCAR circuit, but also raises funds for a truly worthwhile cause -- Ronald McDonald Children's Charities," Betsy Westhoff, McDonald's marketing manager, said today.
The 1993 McDonald's All-Star Race Team will be announced at the last Winston Cup Series event of the season, Nov. 15 in Atlanta.
Marketing support of the hotline balloting will include voting updates displayed on ESPN's "Speedweek" throughout the remainder of the Winston Cup season, advertisements in the track programs distributed at every Winston Cup event, and specially-designed trayliners distributed at participating McDonald's restaurants.
McDonald's is the world's leading food service organization, with more than 12,400 restaurants in 61 countries. About 80 percent of McDonald's restaurant businesses are locally owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs.
