PHOENIX LASER SYSTEMS RECEIVES U.S. PATENT ON OPHTHALMIC WORKSTATION

 SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- Phoenix Laser Systems, Inc. (AMEX: PXS), today announced that it was issued U.S. Patent No. 5,162,641 on Nov. 10, 1992, entitled "System and Method for Detecting, Correcting and Measuring Depth Movement of Target Tissue in a Laser Surgical System." This patent covers a system and method for detecting, measuring and correcting for target movement in a medical, surgical or diagnostic workstation, particularly in conjunction with laser surgery where the treatment beam is folded onto the same beam path as the depth ranging instrument. Phoenix currently holds six U.S. patents including this one and one international patent, and has four additional U.S. and 31 international patent applications pending.

The company's initial efforts have been focused on the design, development and testing of its first product, the Phoenix Ophthalmic Laser Workstation. The company's technology permits surgery designed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, as well as a large number of eye disorders which are untreatable or only partially treatable with current technology.
