 DR. J. JAMES ROWSEY, M.D., AS CORNEAL CONSULTANT
 SAN FRANCISCO, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix Laser Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: PXLS) today announced that J. James Rowsey, M.D., has become a consultant to Phoenix and will shortly receive a Phoenix Ophthalmic Laser Workstation for use in corneal sculpting clinical trials.
 Joann R. Schulz, president and chief operating officer of Phoenix, said, "We are delighted to have Dr. Rowsey join us. His work in the field of corneal refractive surgery is highly regarded by the ophthalmic community, and is respected as an expert in radial keratotomy. He performed the first sighted eye studies for Taunton Technologies Inc., one of the two excimer laser companies which merged to form Visx."
 Dr. Rowsey stated, "I'm excited about the potential of the Phoenix workstation to perform a variety of ophthalmic procedures, including several different procedures for corneal sculpting, and I'm looking forward to beginning clinical trials."
 Dr. Rowsey is professor and chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Fla. Previously, he was a clinical professor of ophthalmology and director of corneal services at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Rowsey is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He holds his undergraduate and medical degrees from George Washington University.
 Phoenix Laser Systems Inc. is a developer of integrated laser workstations primarily for use by the medical community. The company's initial efforts have been focused on the design, development and testing of its first product, the Phoenix Ophthalmic Laser Workstation. The company's technology permits surgery designed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, as well as a large number of eye disorders which are untreatable or only partially treatable with current technology.
