 PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC ELECTS WILLIAM H. SMITH III,
 VICE PRESIDENT PLANNING AND PERFORMANCE
 PHILADELPHIA, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) (PE) announced today that William H. Smith III, has been elected vice president, planning and performance to be effective May 1, 1992.
 Mr. Smith will replace Raymond F. Holman who will retire April 30.
 Smith, 43, will be responsible for developing the company's corporate strategies, goals, and performance measures along with supply and demand planning and the company's wholesale power agreements.
 Smith joined PE in 1970 as an assistant engineer in the company's construction division and has held a variety of positions in construction engineering, corporate planning, and purchasing. In 1988, he was appointed manager of PE's purchasing department. In May 1990, he was appointed director of the corporate organization change task force and in October 1990, Smith was named general manager, human resources. In August 1991, Smith was appointed manager, corporate strategy and performance.
 He was graduated from Bucknell University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, received an MBA from Drexel University, and earned a law degree at Temple University. He also participated in Cornell University's Executive Development Program, and he served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
 Smith is a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and a member of the bar of the U.S. District Court for Eastern District, Pennsylvania.
 In addition, he is a board member of TownePride Works, Inc. and a member of the board of governors of the Philadelphia Business Academy.
 He and his wife, Karen, reside on Clarendon Road, Narberth, Pa.
