 PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC'S DEBENEDICTIS TO RECEIVE
 DREXEL UNIVERSITY CENTENNIAL MEDAL SATURDAY
PHILADELPHIA, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Saturday, June 13, will mark a very special day for both Drexel University and Nicholas DeBenedictis, Philadelphia Electric Company (NYSE: PE) senior vice president for corporate and public affairs.
DeBenedictis will be recognized by the university as one its most prominent alumni and will be presented an inaugural Drexel Centennial Medal.
For the first time, the university, in the midst of its Centennial Celebration, will devote June 13 to honoring the "Drexel 100," 100 of its most distinguished graduates. The selection process involved the review and screening of nominations from more than 60,000 alumni/ae living worldwide. The criteria used in selecting the award honorees were "outstanding professional and personal achievement, with a demonstrated contribution to society."
The Centennial Medal will be awarded at a formal ceremony in Drexel's Mandell Theater, 32nd and Chestnut streets, Philadelphia, on Saturday, June 13, at 2:30 p.m., to be followed by a Centennial Gala that evening. DeBenedictis said he was elated at being selected for the honor and looks forward to sharing his professional career insights with students of the College of Business and Administration.
Philadelphia Electric shares a special relationship with the university as the company has the largest pool of Drexel technical and engineering talent in the world, nearly 700 alumni and 90 co-ops. DeBenedictis received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Drexel University in 1968, a master's degree in environmental engineering and science from Drexel in 1969, and served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1970 to 1973.
Prior to joining PE DeBenedictis was president of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, serving from December 1986 to April 1989 and in the process increasing overall membership to lead the Philadelphia Chamber to the ranks of the five largest in the nation. As secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (DER), from 1983 to 1986, he implemented major legislation and regulations to combat numerous environmental problems involving hazardous materials and solid waste.
