PGW TO RECEIVE 'DEVELOPING THE HUMAN SIDE OF TECHNOLOGY' AWARD

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) will receive the "Developing the Human Side of Technology" Award Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m.
The award presentation will take place in the PGW Auditorium at 800 W. Montgomery Ave.
Daniel Roberts, president of Ouellette & Associates Consulting, Inc. (O&A) will present the award, given annually to a corporation which brings together people, business and technology.
PGW won the award for its Automatic Dispatching System, implemented in February 1992. This revolutionary new computer system has greatly improved service calls to PGW's 520,000 customers. The system transfers customer requests for service from PGW computers directly to service vehicles in all locations of the city.
Roberts said PGW was selected because it was "the most innovative and progressive in integrating people, business and technology. They were able to do so in the competitive environment of the company."
Joseph G. Horan, senior vice president and chief operating officer, and Sydney M. Avent, senior vice president, administration and general counsel, will accept the award for the company.
The "Developing the Human Side of Technology" Award was established in 1988 by O&A. Previous winners were ASH Computer Center, General Mills, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Unisys Corporation and Publix Supermarkets, Inc.
A luncheon will follow the award ceremony. Vice President- Administration Robert J. Dunnigan and project leader Thomas Kuczynski will recognize the contributions of the 19-member team that developed the Automatic Dispatching System.
