PG&E, OTHER UTILITIES TEST FORD NATURAL GAS CARS
 SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- San Francisco-based Pacific

Gas and Electric Co. (NYSE: PCG) (PG&E) is one of 24 gas utilities in the United States and Canada participating in a three-year evaluation program of natural gas-powered Ford Crown Victoria passenger cars.
The real world information provided during the evaluation period by these utilities will help Ford (NYSE: F) further its development of this alternative fuel system.
The utilities were chosen for the demonstration program because they will expose the Crown Victorias to a wide range of climatic conditions and usage patterns. Periodically, they will deliver the cars to designated service sites for data retrieval from on-board computer systems. Along with this data, Ford will gather information on driver satisfaction, emissions, fuel economy and system durability and reliability.
PG&E has purchased and will evaluate four of the new Crown Victorias. "We are proud to support Ford in this project," said Norm Bryan, PG&E vice president of clean air vehicles. "One half of all the air pollution in California is caused by vehicle emissions, and natural gas vehicles produce 90 percent less carbon monoxide than vehicles fueled by diesel or gasoline."
Two other California utilities, Southern California Gas Co., Los Angeles, and San Diego Gas and Electric Co. also are participating in the natural gas Crown Victoria demonstration program.
