PFP sues APML over use of allotted symbol.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan Freedom Party (PFP) Wednesday has filed a damage suit against All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) , worth about 750 million in Islamabad High Court.

In his petition the chairman PFP, Sardar Naseer Ahmed has pointed out that the plaintiff was Chairman of a Political Party, "Pakistan Freedom Party" which was registered before the Election Commission of Pakistan, Islamabad in 1997; while logo/symbol of Eagle (uqab/ Shaheen) was also allotted to the party on December, 2007.

He said that in October, 2010 the defendants launched a political party in the name of "All Pakistan Muslim League" and also announced Eagle (uqab/ Shaheen) as their symbol/logo, while also publicizing / announcing / advertising it as of their political party, using it since October, 2010.

Deliberating further, he said that the APML filed an application dated 25th October, 2010 and December, 2010 to Chief Election Commissioner for the allotment of logo/symbol of Eagle (uqab/ Shaheen) but the said application was not entertained with the observation that the logo/symbol in question had already been given/allotted to the "Pakistan Freedom Party" on 09.12.2007 in the general election 2008.

He claimed that the plaintiff issued legal notice to the APML leaders on 07.06.2011 and raised his grievances, demanded damages for illegal use of the logo/symbol of the plaintiff's political party.

His petition also prayed that the petitioner party would have to incur large expenditure on launching a media publicity in order to declare the illegal use of this symbol/icon by All Pakistan Muslim League and re-associate it with its rightful owner, the "Pakistan Freedom Party".

He also argued that the plaintiff had suffered a lot on mental torture, agony and hardship as well as loss of reputation as measured in the eyes of voters, political parties, family members, general public and right minded people of the society on accounts of above mentioned acts of misuse illegal, immoral defamatory acts, and designs of defendants in collusion with each other.
