PFAs Show Improved Crack Resistance, Purity.

Two ultra-high-purity (UHP) grades of PFA fluoropolymer have been launched by Dyneon Fluoropolymers in Oakdale, Minn. They are made using a special water-purification process to reduce extractable ion levels and make the resins better suited to a semiconductor manufacturing environment.

The new UHP grades, PFA-Flex X8502 for extrusion and 8515 for injection molding, are also said to be more resistant to environmental stress cracking (ESCR) than conventional PFAs. This responds to growing concern over use of new wetting agents in semiconductor processing, which can cause stress-cracking of PFA piping, tubing, pumps, valves, equipment windows, and wafer carriers. Dyneon says the new materials also provide smoother part surfaces, greater flexibility, and higher clarity.
