PETROLEUM MARKETERS' ASSOCIATION: OIL SUPPLIES, PRICES STABLE DESPITE FREEZING TEMPERATURES

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite some news reports, oil marketers are reporting stable heating oil supplies and prices, according to the Petroleum Marketers' Association.
This winter is warmer than last year to this date -- despite popular perceptions. By Jan. 11, 1992, there were 2,118 degree days last year, while so far this winter, there are only 1,743 degree days. (A degree day is computed by adding the high and low temperatures for a 24-hour period, dividing by two and then subtracting from 65 degrees.)
This means that there is as much, or more, oil available to heat homes in Oregon. The price is relatively unchanged too from last year.
Many dealers are reporting same-day delivery in the Portland area.
Steve Reid, spokesperson for the Oregon Petroleum Marketers' Association, counsels homeowners, "If your heating oil company cannot give you the service you need, open the Yellow Pages and try another dealer. Many won't have a problem delivering heating oil to you quickly."
