PETRO-CANADA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE CHANGES

 CALGARY, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Petro-Canada today announced changes in responsibilities of its senior management after a meeting of its board of directors in Calgary.
 J.M. Stanford is appointed president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Mr. Stanford was previously president and chief operating officer. Mr. Stanford joined Petro-Canada in 1978 after a 19- year career with Mobil Oil Canada Ltd. In his 14 years with Petro- Canada, he has served in various positions of increasing responsibility including president of the Resources Division from November 1982, and president and chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors of the corporation from April 1990 to the present. Mr. Stanford resides in Calgary and is active in the community -- among his outside activities, he is chairman of the Calgary Philharmonic Society.
 W.H. Hopper, who has been relieved of his responsibilities as chairman and chief executive officer, has been with Petro-Canada since the company started operations in 1976. He served as president of the corporation between 1976 and 1978, and as chairman and chief executive officer since 1978. Prior to joining Petro-Canada Mr. Hopper had a distinguished career as an international oil consultant and as a senior Canadian public servant. Mr. Hopper is an officer of the Order of Canada.
