BOSTON, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The New England, one of the nation's largest insurance and investment firms, has named Peter S. Voss as president and CEO of its $55 billion asset management company, New England Investment Companies (NEIC).
His appointment will become effective Oct. 19, 1992, said Robert A. Shafto, CEO and president of The New England.

A 1968 graduate of Brown University, Voss, 45, began his career at Rhode Island Trust National Bank, where he rose to senior vice president, leaving in 1983 to join Security Pacific.
At NEIC, Voss will oversee the management of the company's investment management subsidiaries, which include Loomis, Sayles & Company, Copley Real Estate Advisors, and TNE Fund Group, a large family of mutual funds, said Shafto. (A biography of Voss is attached.)

 Biography
Until joining New England Investment Companies, Peter Voss was group executive vice president at Bank of America, where he headed all of the bank's investment and international operations. He was previously group head of international banking, trading and securities at Security Pacific and chief executive officer of the Security Pacific Investment Group.
At Bank of America, Voss oversaw all investment management and private banking activities, which exceed $45 billion in assets. The bank has four direct investment subsidiaries and $20 billion in private client work (of which $5 billion is offshore). There are 15 mutual funds with assets of $16 billion in the bank's family of companies.
Raised in suburban Boston and in Rhode Island, he graduated from Brown University in 1968. He spent the next 15 years with Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank, where he rose to the level of senior vice president in charge of personal and corporate trust businesses. He began as an analyst, eventually moved to portfolio management, and by 1981 headed the bank's trust and investment management businesses.
In 1983, he was recruited as senior vice president and business manager for Security Pacific's trust operation and two years later was promoted to CEO of Security Pacific's Investment Group with responsibility for all investment management activities -- both pension and large public retirement funds -- as well as the private client and mutual fund businesses. During his two years in this position between June 1986 and April 1988, client assets grew from $15 billion to $22 billion as he helped revamp their marketing approaches, developed and enhanced a group of mutual funds, and developed activities with major Japanese institutions. Most importantly, he moved the operation from basically break-even to profits of approximately $22 million.
He was named executive vice president of the bank, and moved to London in April 1988 to assume responsibility for the bank's equity operations in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the bank's overall international banking and debt activities in Europe. During that period as CEO of the Hoare Govett Companies, he returned the bank's equity operation to profitability. He was named to the bank's Management Committee in 1991 upon his return to Los Angeles.
Voss, 45, is married and has two children.
