PETER HALMOS STATEMENT

MIAMI, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to inquiries, Peter Halmos, founder and former Chairman of SafeCard Services, Inc. (NYSE: SSI) today stated, "SafeCard's announcement this morning of a major reorganization of its senior management ranks is nothing more than SafeCard trying to create the illusion that its house is now spic and span without really doing the serious spring cleaning. While it is true that SafeCard now is throwing out several functionaries who are among the defendants in my litigation against SafeCard, those who are the ring leaders behind SafeCard's wrongdoing are still in place, including directors William T. Bacon and Robert L. Dilenschneider as well as certain other members of the SafeCard Board.
"This is another example of SafeCard's lack of credibility, both in terms of its response to my litigation and with respect to its general performance. After all, the senior management team that is now being forced out was responsible, according to SafeCard's year-end release, for making 1993 'one of the most successful in (SafeCard's) history.' In fact, SafeCard's results have shown a steady decline each quarter from earnings of $8.9 million from last year's first quarter down to the $6.4 million for this year's first quarter," Mr. Halmos said.
