PETER BROTHERHOOD WINS $5 MILLION-PLUS IN GAS COMPRESSOR ORDERS; COMPANY
RECENTLY SHIPPED $2 MILLION COMPRESSOR TO OFFSHORE PLATFORM
WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.K.-based Peter Brotherhood Ltd. division of Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO) has received two contracts totaling more than $5 million to supply compressors to European gas plants and recently shipped a $2 million compressor package to an offshore platform.
The first order, from British Gas, is for four compressors that will be installed in the new processing facilities of two liquefied natural gas terminals in England. The Peter Brotherhood compressors will be part of a total system that will remove carbon dioxide Q a major contributor to the global warming problem Q and other impurities from the gas.
The second order is for a two-crank, two-stage compressor that will boost the pressure of nitrogen supplied to a natural gas blending station in the Netherlands owned and operated by Air Products, another British-based firm. Two identical compressors were supplied to this major nitrogen distribution facility by Peter Brotherhood last year.
Also, a Peter Brotherhood compressor package valued at more than $2 million was shipped to the Shell Auk Alpha oil production platform in the North Sea, where it will be used to compress natural gas from the oil wells serviced by the platform.
Marshall J. Armstrong, Thermo Electron vice president, said, "The growing demand for equipment needed for new and expanding natural gas distribution facilities worldwide indicates more prevalent use of natural gas, which is gaining recognition as an environmentally sound, widely available, and economical fuel."
Thermo Electron develops, manufactures, and markets environmental and analytical instruments, custom-engineered and pre-packaged cogeneration systems, industrial process equipment, biomedical materials and products, and fabricated biomedical and aerospace components. The company also provides metallurgical heat treating, water quality engineering, and analytical laboratory services.
