CONVICTED drug smugglers Melissa Reid and Michaella McCollum will be allowed to serve their sentence in the UK.
British authorities have agreed to take back Reid, 20, and McCollum, 21, who were jailed in 2013. Peru has also accepted the deal, but it must be rubber-stamped by a local prison chief - which could take up to a year.
McCollum, of Co Tyrone, and Reid, of Lenzie, near Glasgow admitted trying to smuggle cocaine worth PS1.5million from Peru to Spain and were jailed for six years and eight months. The pair, who had worked in Ibiza, were caught with 11kg of the drug at Jorge Chavez Airport.
After their arrest 12 months ago they told the Mirror they had been kidnapped and forced to carry the drugs, but later admitted the charges.
Currently held in Lima's notorious Ancon 2 jail, they should be transferred to prisons near their homes. A source told the Mirror: "It is just fantastic news. They have had a gruelling 12 months behind bars.
"They did wrong and deserved to be punished but to have them back home will be wonderful."
