Boards: At The E.W. Scripps Co. of Cincinnati, Nackey Scagliotti has been named chairwoman of the board of directors; she has been a member of the board since 1999. Scagliotti was chairwoman of the board of directors of The Union Leader Corp. of Manchester, N.H., from 1999 until December and earlier was assistant publisher of the Union Leader from 1996-1999. She also is the former president and publisher of Neighborhood Publications Inc., a New Hampshire-based publisher of weekly newspapers. Scagliotti is the daughter of Nackey Loeb, who was the publisher of the Union Leader from 1981-1999, and a great-granddaughter of Edward Willis Scripps, the company's founder. Scagliotti replaces William Burleigh, who has been chairman of the board since 1999 and a Scripps employee for almost 50 years. Earlier, Burleigh was the company's chief executive officer and president and held a variety of executive positions with the company from 1984 onward. Burleigh also served as editor of the company's newspapers in Evansville, Ind., and Cincinnati. ... At the Audit Bureau of Circulations of Schaumberg, Ill., Evan Ray has been named to the board of directors; he remains senior vice president for finance and operations of the Community Publishing Division of Gannett Co. Inc. Ray was named to his Gannett job last June and earlier was chief financial officer of Phoenix Newspapers Inc., and before that worked as a finance executive at Gannett's papers in Reno, Nev., Little Rock, Ark., and Tallahassee, Fla. ...

Publishers: At The Olympian in Olympia, Wash., George Le Masurier has been named president and publisher; previously, he was the publisher of the weeklies, the Peninsula Gateway and The Herald in Washington's Puget Sound region (all are McClatchy papers), jobs he's held since 2001. Le Masurier is a second-generation newspaperman (he grew up living in an apartment above his family's Minnesota newspaper) and was an executive with E.W. Bickle Ltd., Thomson Newspapers and Sound Publishing Inc. before joining McClatchy. Le Masurier replaces John Winn Miller, who resigned in January; Miller had run the paper since August 2005. Earlier, Miller was senior vice president of marketing at Florida's Tallahassee Democrat. Miller started out in the newsroom, and worked as a reporter and editor at Kentucky's Lexington Herald-Leader, The Associated Press and the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa., before being named executive editor of the Democrat in 1999. In 2002 he was named senior vice president for news and circulation in Tallahassee. ...

New media mavens: At Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Owen Youngman has been named the Knight Professor of Digital Media Strategy, effective April 1; until then, he continues as senior vice president for strategy and development at the Chicago Tribune, a job he's held since March 2007. Youngman began at the Tribune in 1971 as a copy boy and rose through the editorial ranks, eventually becoming managing editor for features. From 1995-1999 he was the paper's first interactive media director and in 2000 was named vice president of development. ... At the Houston Chronicle, Stephen Weis has been named executive vice president; he remains vice president of digital sales at Hearst Newspapers and general manager of Chron.com, jobs he's held since 2008 and 2005, respectively. Weis joined the Chronicle in August 2004 as director of on-line sales and has more than 11 years of Internet operations and sales experience, including positions at Freedom Communications, Advance Internet/Publications and The Seattle Times Co. ...

Editor: At Northern California's Vacaville Reporter, Robin Miller has been named managing editor; previously, she was the paper's city editor, a job she's held for almost a decade. Earlier, Miller was a features and news reporter for eight years. She has also reported for the Manteca Bulletin in nearby San Joaquin County. Miller replaces Diane Barney, who resigned as editor of the paper. ... #
