Executive suite: At Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., Jennifer Pustaver has been named chief financial officer; she remains in charge of the financial management group, a role she's held for three years, and a senior vice president and controller, which she's been for five years. Pustaver joined CNHI in 1999 and began her finance career with the First Union National Bank in Greenville, S.C., later serving in accounting positions with Multimedia Inc., and Gannett Co. Inc. Pustaver replaces Lynn Pearson, who resigned for family reasons; Pearson had been with CNHI for 18-1/2 years, initially as senior vice president and controller and since 2000 as executive vice president and CFO. Pearson started her career in 1986 with Virginia's First Federal Savings Bank of Richmond, where over 9-1/4 years she rose to vice president and CFO. From 1996-1997, Pearson was a senior financial analyst and then chief accounting officer of Bank One Kentucky of Louisville. ...

Publishers: At Louisiana's The Advocate of Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette, Dan Shea has been named publisher; previously, he'd been president and chief operating officer for 2-1/4 years. From 1993-2012, Shea was managing editor for news at the Newhouses' The Times-Picayune of New Orleans. Shea joined The Record of Hackensack, N.J. in 1988 as business editor and was publishing systems manager there from 1991-1993. From 1986-1988, Shea was assistant managing editor of the daily business newspaper, the Bond Buyer. He started his career in the late 1970s at the late alternative weekly, the Hartford Advocate, in Connecticut, and from 1982-1986 was a reporter at the Journal Inquirer of Manchester, Conn. Shea replaces John Georges, who remains co-owner of The Advocate, a role he's held since May 2013. ... At Wick's Capital Journal of Pierre, S.D., John Clark has been named publisher; most recently, he was publisher of Civitas Media's Delaware Gazette in Ohio and regional director for 18 other Ohio papers. Earlier, Clark was publisher of Heartland (Civitas' predecessor) titles La Grange Daily News in Georgia, the Portsmouth Daily Times, and supervised company papers in Prestonsburg and Hazard, Ky., from 2008-2012. Clark started his career at Michigan's Iron River Reporter in 1973 and has been publisher of the Delta Democrat Times in Greenville, Miss., and papers in Wisconsin, including the Steven's Point Journal and the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune. Clark replaces Steve Baker, who resigned in May after just less than seven years in the job. Earlier, Baker was publisher of Northern California's Red Bluff Daily News in 2007-2008 and publisher of Lee's South Idaho Press in Burley in the previous 3-3/4 years. From 1996-2004, Baker was with Ogden Newspapers, first as general manager of its Minot Daily News in North Dakota for four years and then as regional ad director based at its Fort Dodge Messenger in Iowa for 3-3/4 years. ...

Front office: At the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, two promotions. Arden Dickey has been named senior vice president of circulation, a new role; previously, he'd been vice president of circulation for 2-1/4 years. From 2006-2013, Dickey ran his own newspaper circulation and call-center consulting firm. Dickey started his career with the Miami Herald as a district manager in 1971 and over the next 28 years rose to become vice president and circulation director. From 2000-2006, Dickey was vice president of circulation and call centers for the late Knight Ridder. Steve Yaeger has been named vice president and chief marketing officer, a new role; previously, he'd been marketing director for 4-1/4 years. From 2004-2011, Yaeger was a principal and co-founder of Aspyrion Inc. of Minneapolis. Earlier, he was a marketing executive at software company Cognos Inc. and marketing communications director at Adaytum. From 1994-2000, Yaeger worked for West Publishing, rising from editor, to senior writer, to a corporate communications role. Earlier still, he was in the creative department at the catalog and online retailer Fingerhut from 1990-1994. ...

Newsroom names: At GateHouse's Morning Sun of Pittsburg, Kansas, Patrick Richardson has been named managing editor (top newsroom job); previously, he'd been managing editor of the company's Miami News-Record in Oklahoma for 21 months and remains editor of the blog OtherwhereGazette.com, a job he's held for 3-3/4 years. This had been Richardson's second stint in Miami, where he was also managing editor in 2002-2003. From 2009-2013, Richardson was managing editor of Kansas' Columbus Advocate. Richardson has had an eclectic career over 17 years, serving as assistant sports editor of Kansas' Great Bend Tribune, managing editor of a weekly, a business-phone account executive, a fire-safety analyst, an auto-tool salesman and director of a heritage center and museum. Richardson replaces Andrew Nash, who had been managing editor for eight years. Replacing Richardson in Miami will be Jim Ellis; previously, he'd been sports editor of the paper for 38 years. Ellis started his career in 1975 as a reporter and editor at the twice-weekly Sequoyah County Times Sallisaw, Okla. ... At Community Newspaper Holdings' Cumberland Times-News in Maryland, John D. Smith Jr. has been named managing editor (top newsroom role); previously, he'd been news editor of the paper for 20 years. Smith joined the Times-News in 1989 as a reporter and from 1992-1995, he was a desk editor there. Smith replaces Jan Alderton who retired after 48 years at the Times-News and 21 years as managing editor (in two stints, the first from 1987-1992 and the latest since 1999). Alderton started at the paper in 1967 as a proofreader and later served "in virtually every newsroom position," including sports reporter and editorial page editor. ... #
