Board of directors: At Dow Jones & Co., Michael Elefante has been nominated to the board; he is a partner in the Boston law firm Hemenway & Barnes, which acts as the primary trustee for the Bancroft family, DJ's controlling shareholder. Elefante has been with H&B for almost 35 years and served as managing partner from 1993 to 1999. He replaces Roy Hammer, also of H&B, who will retire from the board at its April meeting. Hammer has been on the DJ board since 1998. ...

Executive suite: At Hearst Newspapers of New York City, Lincoln Millstein has been named senior vice president and director of digital media; most recently he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of New York Times Digital, a job he'd held since 2000. A 32-year veteran of the newspaper business, Millstein started as a reporter at Connecticut's Hartford Courant and matriculated to the Boston Globe in 1983. In 1995 he helped found Boston.com and ran it until 2000. ... At Dow Jones International, Karen Mullis has been named managing director of sales and marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; previously she was managing director of sales for Western Europe. A 15-year veteran of DJ, the New Zealand native has been sales manager in the company's Paris office and the ad director and managing director of the company's Far Eastern Economic Review. ...

Publishers: At Iowa's Waterloo Courier, Dave Braton has been named ad director; previously he was publisher of the Beatrice Daily Sun (both are Lee papers). Earlier in his career, Braton was sales director at North Dakota's Bismarck Tribune and before that was with the Forum in Fargo for 20 years, spending the last seven as general manager. ... At Nebraska's Fremont Tribune, Bill Vobejda has been named publisher; previously he was marketing director of the Lincoln Journal Star (both are Lee papers). In Lincoln since 1999, Vobejda held sales and management positions with the Des Moines Register, starting there in 1991, and has also been on the faculty at the University of Nebraska. ...

Editors: At Georgia's Valdosta Daily Times, Kay Harris has been named managing editor; previously she was the paper's business editor. A 20-year veteran of journalism, Harris has worked at papers in Mississippi and Arkansas, as well as Stars & Stripes. ... At New Mexico's Carlsbad Current-Argus, Josh Byers has been named managing editor; previously he was editor and general manager of the nearby Deming Headlight (both are Gannett/MediaNews papers), a job he'd held since 2002. Byers started in newspapers as a reporter at the Roswell Daily Record (also in New Mexico) in 1995 and worked his way up the ranks to become night editor in 1999. Between 2000 and 2002 he was a copy editor at the Las Cruces Sun-News. Taking Byers' old job is Bill Armendariz, who previously was sports editor of the Headlight. A Deming native, Armendariz started at the paper in 1982 as sports editor. ... At Ohio's Marion Star, Tom Graser has been named managing editor; previously he was assistant managing editor of North Carolina's Asheville Citizen-Times (both are Gannett papers). Graser joined the Citizen-Times in 1998 in the composing room and moved over to the news side two years later, working his way up the chairs to AME by 2002. Earlier in his career, Graser was the Asheville's local weekday host of NPR's "Morning Edition" radio show and was editor of New York's Malone Telegram. ... At the Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C., Steve Mullins has been named managing editor (the new top position in the newsroom); previously he was assistant managing editor for metro. A longtime Post and Courier veteran, earlier Mullins was an investigative reporter, the paper's city editor, assistant metro editor, assistant managing editor for special projects and AME for features. ...
