PERRY LAUNCHES FREE PRESCRIPTION DELIVERY SERVICE CALLED 'PERRY REDCOAT EXPRESS'

 PONTIAC, Mich., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Historically an innovator in retailing, Perry Drug Stores, Inc. (NYSE: PDS) today announced a new program, Perry Redcoat Express, which will deliver prescriptions free to customers at home in the five-county Detroit metropolitan area.
 "We are proud of our record through the years of instituting the newest and the most responsive service programs to better care for our customers," said Andy Giancamilli, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "This is another indication of our leadership in the drugstore industry."
 Giancamilli said Perry Redcoat Express will deliver prescriptions to customers twice a day, seven days a week. Orders will be received around-the-clock. The service will work as follows:
 Customers will call 1-800-72-Perry and order their regular refills, giving a credit card number for charges or the account number of a checking account.
 If the order is placed before 11 a.m., it will be delivered the same day between noon and 4 p.m. If the order is placed before 3 p.m., the delivery will be made by 8 p.m. of the same day.
 The delivery area includes Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Monroe counties, totaling 120 Perry drugstores.
 "We have always asked customers to come talk to us. They did about the possibilities of a delivery service and we responded."
 Perry fills more than 1 million prescriptions a month and more than 15 million a year.
 Perry has been an innovator in service and customer care with many other drugstore retailing programs, including:
 -- More than 200 drugstores in Michigan which have PerryLink, a state-of-the-art computer system that electronically interconnects all of Perry's pharmacies.
 -- Thirty-eight 24-hour drugstores of which 15 have pharmacies operating around-the-clock.
 -- PerryDate, a program which includes the expiration date of medication on prescription labels.
 -- And now, Perry Redcoat Express.
 Perry, a New York Stock Exchange company headquartered in Pontiac, operates 213 drugstores in Michigan. It is the state's largest drugstore chain and the 14th-largest drugstore chain in the U.S.
