 PERRIGO TO BUILD NEW TABLET MANUFACTURING FACILITY;
 UP TO 300 NEW JOBS CREATED BY 1994
 ALLEGAN, Mich., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Perrigo Company (NASDAQ-NMS: PRGO), the nation's largest manufacturer of store brand OTC pharmaceutical (non-prescription) and personal care products, today announced the construction of a new $25.5 million tablet manufacturing facility in Allegan.
 Upon completion of the facility in August of 1993, Perrigo will add 50 new jobs at the plant. As many as 250 more jobs will be created in support areas such as packaging, distribution and other manufacturing- related areas by 1994.
 During a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Michigan Gov. John Engler, Perrigo Co. Chairman Michael Jandernoa said the 125,000-square- foot facility will further reinforce Perrigo's position as the industry leader.
 "The construction of this plant and our continued growth reflects the increased consumer recognition of the quality and value of store brand products," said Jandernoa. "In addition, this new plant is a testimony to the valuable contributions Perrigo employees have made toward our growth and success.
 "Perrigo is continually making investments for today and the future so we can help our customers succeed in the highly competitive OTC pharmaceutical and personal care products industry," added Jandernoa. "This new world-class facility will virtually double our tablet manufacturing capacity and continue to strengthen our competitive advantage."
 Perrigo manufactures three types of OTC pharmaceutical tablets -- analgesics, cough and cold remedies, and antacids -- and the new plant will increase capacity for these products by 8-12 billion tablets. The new facility will be equipped for tablet mixing, granulation, compression and coating, and will house 8-12 compression booths. Of the total 125,000 square feet, tablet manufacturing will account for 90,000 square feet, and warehousing and mechanicals will account for 15,600 and 19,400 square feet, respectively.
 Perrigo Company is the nation's largest manufacturer of OTC pharmaceutical (non-prescription) products and personal care products for the store brand market. Headquartered in Allegan, Perrigo employs 2,060 people in West Michigan, and more than 3,200 nationwide. Founded in 1887, Perrigo sales were $410 million for fiscal year ended June 30, 1992.
