PERRIGO COMPANY ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS

 ALLEGAN, Mich., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Perrigo Company (NASDAQ-NMS: PRGO) today announced the following executive appointments to prepare for future growth in the expanding over-the-counter pharmaceutical market as many prescription drugs switch to over-the- counter status.
 Mark Olesnavage has been promoted to executive vice president responsible for Operations and Pharmaceutical Business Development. In this position, Olesnavage will continue to focus on new product development through the FDA's Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) process and will assume new responsibilities in the manufacturing operations for health care products. Olesnavage, an 11-year veteran of Perrigo, was most recently vice president of Pharmaceutical Businees Development and previously served as vice president of Marketing (1987- 1992) for the Perrigo Company. In addition to his broad experience in the store brand industry, Olesnavage has an undergraduate degree in marketing and economics and an MBA from Grand Valley State University. He serves on the boards of the Private Label Manufacturers' Association and the Generic Pharmaceutical Industry Association.
 Carl Johnson has joined Perrigo in the capacity of vice president of Pharmaceutical Business Development. Johnson has broad marketing experience in health and beauty aids and consumer products and previously worked for Johnson & Johnson for 17 years and more recently Phillips, Incorporated. Johnson has served as vice president of Marketing (Consumer Products) at Phillips and vice president of Marketing and Sales of a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Johnson was also previously director of Marketing for the health and beauty aids sector of Johnson & Johnson. Additionally, he holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

 Perrigo Company is the nation's largest manufacturer of over-the- counter (non-prescription) pharmaceuticals and personal care products for the store brand market. Store brand products are sold under a retailer's own label and compete with nationally advertised brand name products. The company's customers are major national and regional retail drug, supermarket and mass merchandise chains and major wholesalers. The company's products include over-the-counter pharmaceuticals (such as analgesics, cough and cold remedies, antacids, laxatives, suppositories and diet products), personal care products (such as toothpaste and mouthwash, hair care products, deodorants and antiperspirants, baby care products, and skin care and sun care products) and vitamins. The company attributes its leadership position in the store brand market to its commitment to customer service, its focus on quality, and its emphasis on low cost production.
