 MAINTENANCE METHODS DESIGNED TO CUT COSTS BY 90 PERCENT
 BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Peritus Software Services, Inc. today announced a five year, $3 million software maintenance contract with Bull HN Information Systems, Inc. Under the agreement, Peritus, headquartered in Burlington, Mass., will provide software maintenance on selected components of Bull's GCOS 6 operating system software, which runs on the company's DPS 6 and DPS 6000 mini- computer product lines. Bull, located in Billerica, Mass., has an 11.5 percent equity investment in Peritus.
 Peritus provides software maintenance using a highly innovative combination of personnel selection, methodologies, processes, and CASE tools which are designed to yield a 90 percent cost reduction within three years while maintaining or improving quality. By having Peritus maintain these mature GCOS 6 software components, Bull can focus its software engineering efforts on product line enhancements.

Chan also expressed pleasure with Bull's support for a new company in Boston's Route 128 area.
