PERITUS ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH SYBASE; PERITUS WILL MAINTAIN, SUPPORT, ENHANCE AND MARKET THE DBA COMPANION PRODUCTS

 BURLINGTON, Mass., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Peritus Software Services, Inc. today announced an agreement with Sybase, Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, Peritus, headquartered in Burlington, Mass., will assume all rights to the DBA Companion(R) Environment which is a series of three software programs used for the operational control of Oracle(tm) databases. Peritus will maintain and enhance the software programs as well as provide technical support to current and future customers. In addition, Peritus will actively market the products to Oracle users worldwide.
 The DBA Companion Environment offers users of the Oracle database system a portfolio of productivity tools enabling data base administrators to effectively manage applications, users, security, source code, database objects, and storage capacity in an Oracle production environment.

 Included in the DBA Companion Environment are the Application Manager(tm), which automates application configuration control and security management, the Database Analyzer(tm), which offers in-depth analysis, exception reporting, and automatic cleanup of virtually every database object in the RDBMS environment, and the Resource Manager(tm), which allows the database administrator to efficiently utilize storage resources, identify and correct fragmentation and chaining problems, ensure optimal database performance, and plan for future database expansion by monitoring growth rates.
 Peritus software maintenance, designed to reduce costs by more than half within three years while maintaining or improving quality, is a highly innovative combination of methodologies, processes, personnel selection, and CASE tools, By having Peritus maintain and market these products, Sybase can focus on its strategic products.
