PERFORMERS PREPARE FOR EASTER SUN; GROUP TO RE-ENACT EVENTS FROM GOSPELS IN OUTDOOR PAGEANT.

Byline: Charles F. Bostwick Daily News Staff Writer

Dozens of Agua Dulce and Acton residents will dress Sunday as Roman soldiers, Jerusalem townsfolk and angels to retell the Easter story of Jesus' trial, crucifixion and resurrection.

Recorded and live music, Roman soldier outfits donated by a costume company, a tomb created by Paramount Studios, and other costumes made by a pastor's wife and church members are part of the sunrise re-enactment expected to draw 2,000 people to Vasquez Rock County Park's tilted sandstone formations.

``The program has been going on for 25 years. Five years ago we changed the format to the pageant-type production and it's been extremely popular,'' said the Rev. Mike Sheridan of Family Community Church of Agua Dulce, one of four Acton and Agua Dulce churches that sponsor the service.

The service is sponsored by Family Community Church, Agua Dulce Christian Church, Agua Dulce Foursquare Church and Faith Bible Church of Acton.

Organizers urged worshippers to arrive between 5 and 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The service will start sometime after 5:30, Sheridan said.

People can watch from their vehicles or climb up on the rocks with blankets, Sheridan said. Some 600 chairs will also be lined up.

The Easter sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Warren Arey of Agua Dulce Christian Church.

From the Santa Clarita Valley, take the Antelope Valley Freeway, exit Agua Dulce Canyon Road. From Antelope Valley, exit Escondido Canyon Road. Go north and follow the signs to the county park entrance. For Sunday's service, parks officials have waived the usual $3 parking fee.
