Upcoming guest artist

produces two albums

Violinist Jorja Fleezanis, who will perform with the Eugene Symphony on Oct. 14, has two new albums.

"Ikon of Eros" (Reference Recordings RR-102) features the world premiere recording of a work by British composer John Tavener. With French pianist Cyril Huve, Fleezanis has released a three-CD set of Ludwig van Beethoven sonatas for pianoforte and violin (Cypres Records CYP 1640).

"Ikon of Eros" was commissioned for Fleezanis by the Minnesota Orchestra, of which she is the concertmaster. A four-movement work for violin, orchestra and chorus, it has parts for a psaltist, or cantor, and soprano.

Family musical comedy

comes to Tsunami Books

Rachel Kidd will present "Breastfeeding at the Bowling Alley," a musical comedy based on a true local story, at 4 p.m. July 25 at Tsunami Books, 2585 Willamette St.

Billed as a show for the whole family, the 23-minute performance includes six songs and three dances. The program also includes a puppet play, "Barbie's Global Warning," and a dance by Hannah Downs.

Oregon Bach Festival

chooses 2005 program

The 2005 Oregon Bach Festival will open June 23 with the San Marcos Pasion, composed by Osvaldo Golijov and conducted by Maria Guinand.

The festival also will feature Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio, presented in a two-concert, day-night format; Franz Joseph Haydn's "Creation"; and two dramatic works by Felix Mendelssohn: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The First Walpurgis Night."

This year's festival, which ended July 11, presented 577 musicians in 51 programs. It was supported by financial and in-kind support from 130 contributors, and put to work 210 seasonal staff members and volunteers.
