PERCEPTRON RECEIVES $1.6 MILLION IN ORDERS FROM FIAT

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Nov. 17 ~PRNewswire~ -- Perceptron, In c. (OTC: PRCP) announced today that it has received from Fiat, one of Europe's largest auto makers, purchase orders for nine Perceptron 1000 laser-driven measuring systems for a total of approximately $1,620,000 to be delivered over the next six months.
The Fiat order increases Perceptron's penetration of the European market. In addition to Fiat, Perceptron has supplied precision measuring systems to Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Volvo and other automotive manufacturers. Perceptron has supplied measuring systems to Fiat since 1988.
The latest award points to a growing international role for Perceptron's technology, according to Dwight Carlson, Perceptron's president and chief executive officer. "This is our largest order to date from Fiat, and marks the first time that Fiat has ordered optical measuring systems exclusively from Perceptron. It confirms that Fiat is pleased with our products," Carlson said.
Using lasers and digital signal processing electronics, Perceptron's on-line systems make critical measurements as cars move along the production line. It takes only seconds to determine whether an individual body panel or car body meets design intent. Operating at electronic speed, the Perceptron system can detect deviations in production processes and can help plant engineers correct them immediately so that quality standards are consistently met.
Perceptron develops, manufactures and markets laser-based sensor and image-processing systems used in the production of large formed parts and assemblies such as cars, trucks and appliances. Perceptron products are marketed in North America, Europe and Japan.
