PEPSICO NAMES ENRICO CORPORATE VICE CHAIRMAN; SINCLAIR TO HEAD INTERNATIONAL FOODS, BEVERAGES

PURCHASE, N.Y., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), today named Roger A. Enrico, a 22-year company veteran and member of its board of directors, to the newly created position of vice chairman of the corporation.
In his new role, Enrico will work full time on two specific areas: executive leadership throughout the corporation and long-term growth. He will work through already existing corporate functions, including PepsiCo's human resource and planning departments.
In announcing the change, PepsiCo Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wayne Calloway said: "Roger and I believe executive leadership and long-term growth are the two greatest issues facing big, successful companies like ours. They deserve the full-time attention of a senior, highly experienced executive of Roger's stature. We believe this may be the first time a corporation like PepsiCo has focused the full attention of a senior operating executive on issues that link leadership with corporate growth."
Prior to the appointment, Enrico had been chairman and chief executive of PepsiCo Worldwide Foods, which included the company's Frito-Lay division in the United States and PepsiCo Foods International (PFI). PFI now will report to Christopher Sinclair, currently president of Pepsi-Cola International, who will have the title of president and CEO of PepsiCo Foods and Beverages International. He will continue to report to Calloway, as will now Steve Reinemund, who continues as president and CEO of Frito-Lay.
Calloway said: "Steve and Chris are experienced, successful PepsiCo executives with strong records of accomplishment. In the last couple of years Chris has brought a clear and winning vision to Pepsi-Cola International. Before that he had extensive experience in our Frito-Lay and domestic beverage businesses. Steve has been an outstanding performer as president and CEO of Pizza Hut and, for the last year, as president and CEO of Frito-Lay. Both have built lots of momentum in their businesses, and we expect that to continue."
In talking about his new responsibility, Enrico said: "More than any large company in the world, PepsiCo's success depends on the personal efforts of thousands of employees. We operate more than 22,000 restaurants and about the same number of sales routes in snacks and soft drinks. All of these units are entrepreneurial in nature. Moreover, all of our major divisions operate with great autonomy, with significant authority and responsibility given to local managers. Modest increases in executive leadership across the board will create huge gains for our shareholders."
Calloway said: "Roger is one of America's most dynamic business leaders. He combines vision with pragmatism and has enormous experience in building businesses at PepsiCo. He'll bring broad perspective to this new assignment and play a major role in PepsiCo's future growth."
Before becoming chairman of PepsiCo Worldwide Foods and president of PepsiCo Foods International, Enrico was chairman and CEO of Frito-Lay and president and CEO of PepsiCo Worldwide Beverages. He started his PepsiCo career in the marketing department at Frito-Lay in 1971 and held executive positions in a variety of PepsiCo's domestic and international businesses.
The new assignments go into effect immediately.
