STUDIOS 'CO-GHOST' HALLOWEEN EVENT TO BOOST RETAIL SALES
SOMERS, N.Y., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito-Lay, Inc. are teaming up again with the Universal movie monsters to make Halloween '92 a sales smash for retailers around the country. Themed "Monster Bash," the in-store merchandising program begins next week in supermarkets, mass merchandisers, convenience stores and drugstore chains.
"Halloween is the third biggest party occasion of the year. This year it falls on a Saturday and could very well outpace New Year's Eve as a party and retail event," said Jeff Campbell, senior vice president, Pepsi-Cola Company.
"We're throwing Monster Bash in stores nationwide because research shows that point-of-purchase materials and displays can double the sales of soft drinks to a majority of consumers who make their purchasing decisions at the store," he added.
"Retailers know that Halloween is a critical lead-in for the key holiday selling season," said Ron Tidmore, senior vice president, national sales and channel marketing at Frito-Lay. "Monster Bash combines two superbrands and brings excitement, value and customers into stores."
Monster Bash will transform thousands of stores and restaurants into monster Party Centers with two of the top-selling grocery items: Pepsi soft drinks and Frito-Lay snacks. Universal Studios has specially created Party Monsters featured in the Monster Bash point-of-purchase materials and Pepsi's television advertising. Monster Bash displays also feature the famous Bates house from the thriller "Psycho."
This is the second annual joint Halloween event for corporate cousins Pepsi and Frito-Lay. Last year's Monster Match consumer game was the first national cooperative merchandising program for the two companies.
Pepsi-Cola, based in Somers, and Frito-Lay, based in Plano, Texas, are divisions of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP).
