 READY-TO-DRINK "LIPTON ORIGINAL"
 PURCHASE, N.Y., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pepsi Lipton Tea Partnership today unveiled Lipton Original -- the nation's first all- natural, real-brewed ready-to-drink (RTD) iced tea. The new tea will debut next week in convenience stores, delis and other single-serve channels in selected markets in 16-ounce recloseable bottles.
 "Until now, RTD teas simply weren't as good as tea you could make at home," said Sheldon Roesch, Vice President and General Manager of the Pepsi Lipton Tea Partnership. "However, with new technology and the combined forces of Lipton and Pepsi, we have created a great-tasting, real-brewed tea as good as homemade."
 Lipton Original marks the first appearance of real-brewed tea in RTD form. Until now, RTD tea was made from powder or concentrate, like instant tea, and then canned. New production technology gives Lipton Original the cool, all-natural, no-preservatives taste and the clear, sparkling look of tea made at home. Lipton Original will be available in three flavors: Unsweetened No Lemon, Sweetened with Lemon and Sweetened No Lemon.
 The RTD tea market is one of the fastest-growing segments of the soft drink industry, logging consistent double-digit volume growth. Lipton is the undisputed leader in the entire tea category and in the RTD segment. According to A.C. Nielsen, Lipton commands more than 45 percent of the total tea category, outselling its nearest competitor by a 4-1 margin.
 "Lipton Original's cool, clear, real-tea flavor was introduced more than 100 years ago when Sir Thomas J. Lipton began selling tea in America," Roesch added. "It's easy to brew the best-tasting tea when you've had a century of practice."
 Lipton Original's three new choices join Lipton Brisk Iced Tea available in 12-ounce cans in grocery and convenience stores and vending machines. Lipton also makes top quality fountain and fresh brew teas to meet the specific needs of restaurants and other foodservice locations.
 The Purchase, N.Y.-based Pepsi Lipton Tea Partnership was formed January 1, 1992, to develop and market new tea-based beverages for the U.S. consumer market and to expand the distribution of existing Lipton RTD products through Pepsi's extensive domestic distribution system.
 Thomas J. Lipton Company, a unit of New York-based Unilever United States, Inc., has been importing and selling teas in the United States since 1890. Lipton is the nation's best-known and best-selling tea in all forms.
 Pepsi-Cola Company, a division of Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), maintains one of the most extensive distribution networks in the foodservice industry. Last year, Pepsi delivered more than 2.5 billion cases of soft drinks directly to customers across the nation.
